Christmas and me.

If my calculation is corrected, I probably am in grade 5 in 1996. My English teacher, Khru Warin was a Christian. Around Christmas time, she prepared lessons for us about Christmas. I enjoyed it as we got to sing Christmas songs, have snacks and exchanged small presents. She also got me into love learning The English language. The weather around December always cooler than usual, it was just wonderful. I’ve always wondered who Jesus really is but never had a courage to ask my teacher about it. Well, I was just a kid. lol, Many years when by…..every year on Christmas, I’ll be sitting in front of TV looking at news about Christmas celebrations from all over the world.

Fast forward to 2004, my first year in university. I ran into this one group of people called “San Sai Yai”, they’re members of Our Home Chapel looking for people to join their annual English Camp. It took me a few weeks to make a decision to join the camp and it was one of the best decision I’ve ever made. Of course, it was a camp for Christians to tell people about God. As I’ve always interested in getting to know Him, I started going to church and the person who took care of me was P’Honey (owner of Daniel Thaiger burger truck).

A few months after I got baptized, one of the church members asked me if I’m interested in working in worship team to do powerpoint presentations of announcements and worship songs. That got me interested in working with a computer because I want everything to look great up on the screen. I started to learn more about programs, photoshop, video editing and some other stuff. The church also opened English School and the teachers are missionaries from the US. I got a chance to practice English more and more as I already did with music, movies and tv. series. Then I got a chance to teach English to kids from 4-12 years old and work as a staff at the English School. A few years after that, one of the church members open a Travel Agency company and I joined them. I was working as Tour assistant taking care of many mission teams from the US, Canada, and Australia. I got to travel to the north visited many hill tribes and churches. We got to do constructions for Burmese refugee school and Mae Sot Church, donate food/medical supplies, taught lessons at schools, did English camp with hill tribes kids and tell people about God. I also was an interpreter from English to Thai when the team was preaching and sharing their testimonies. One of the coolest thing I ever did was that we had to translate the sermon from English to Thai and from Thai to Karen language.

I’ve learned so many things from this church. Everything I am or have now is because of my amazing experiences with the church. If I didn’t meet these people I can’t imagine what I will be doing now. Even though I’m not going to church anymore (about 2 years now) doesn’t mean I don’t believe in God. I’ve run into lots of trouble in my life and God is always there to help me get through it. He’s never late, He’s always on time. One day when I’m ready, I might go back to church. I was born a Buddhist and changed my believe in 2004, it’s been 10 years and I never regret my decision.

Christmas is the birthday of Jesus and it reminds me of Him and how I’m so grateful for everything He has put me through. You might think I’m crazy, but it feels right for us to believe in something and keep us moving on.

Merry Christmas, everybody! and Happy Birthday baby Jesus!
